How to join our Company

A short explanation of the way to become a member of the Worshipful Company of Farmers

How to go about joining the Worshipful Company of Farmers

To become a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Farmers brings many opportunities and benefits but also responsibilities. Our aim, as a genuinely vocational Livery Company, closely linked to the agricultural community of which we are a part, is to serve that community. Joining brings real fellowship, enjoyment and the opportunity to put something back into farming, but it is a long term commitment and not something to be entered into lightly.

If you follow the link to 'Who we are' (under construction) you will meet a few of our Liverymen and hear their reasons for joining the Company and what they feel they get out of membership.

Applications for membership of Livery must be supported by two existing Liverymen. One acting as the Proposer, who has known you for at least 5 years the other as a Seconder, who needs to have known you for at least three years. If you have a strong connection with the agricultural sector, but do not know any Liverymen, the Clerk can provide a membership list which might help you to identify Liverymen that already know you.

(N.B. Proposers and Seconders of prospective applicants for membership also have responsibilities and duties, so it is essential that they too should read these notes before endorsing an application.)

If you are unable to suggest suitable Liverymen to become your Proposer and/or Seconder, it may still be possible to join by attending an interview. The Clerk can help you follow this route if it is the only one available.

The Clerk can also give you guidance on the financial obligations of joining the Company, in the forms of ‘fines’ and ‘quarterage’, that prospective applicants should be aware of.

If you would like to take your interest in becoming a member further, you can download download detailed guidance on how to join us, what is required and what is expected, by following this link Guidance Joining The Wcf V April 2018 and here Guidance Note By The Court To Prospective Applicants For Membership.
