The Worshipful Company of Farmers is one of the 110 Livery Companies of the City of London. The oldest of these date back to Medieval times or even before. Our own roots stretch back to the Cornmongers Guild in the 14th century, but the present, modern company was formally established in 1952.

“Inspiring, developing and encouraging excellence in the management and leadership of UK agriculture.”

We achieve these aims through our very highly regarded educational courses, our annual Agricultural Lecture, our participation in the City Food Lecture, the Lord Mayor’s Show and our links with the City Farms movement and especially the Surrey Docks City Farm.

We also have strong ties with the Forces, through our affiliations with HMS Defender, RAF Waddington, The Westminster Dragoons and the Middlesex Wing of the Air Training Corps.

Our vibrant community of over 360 Liverymen (which includes many women too, in spite of the name) is drawn from all parts of the agricultural industry, not just from farmers and landowners. We meet regularly, usually in our own modern Livery Hall – at 3 Cloth Street, Barbican, which we share with the Fletchers’ Company. This has meeting rooms as well as the main Hall itself. For larger, formal events like the Annual Banquet and Agricultural Lecture and Dinner, we meet in some of the larger, often magnificent, Livery Halls in the City of London.

In addition to these meetings, Liverymen enjoy their fellowship through a host of activities including a ski trip, golf day, clay shoot and the unmissable Summer Visit, hosted by the Master of the day. Then there are the wonderful, historic livery events like the Lord Mayor’s Show and the annual Sheep Drive over the Thames.
