Since its foundation in 1946 our Livery Company has operated a programme of charitable activity focussed chiefly in the areas of education and scholarship within agriculture. It is the generous bequests of earlier Liverymen that enabled the development and still helps fund the on-going administration of our renowned educational courses.

Through the careful management of our endowments, plus the levy paid by present day Liverymen, we are able to carry out our programme of apprenticeships, scholarships research and other charitable giving.

The Worshipful Company of Farmers is not a wealthy Livery Company and the present financial climate makes it increasingly challenging for us to pursue many of our current activities, or to do justice to future generations of young people in the industry. If we are to fulfil the objectives of the Company it is not good enough to just stand still – hard though even that is at the moment. We need to push on further and enhance and develop the pre-eminence, relevance and effectiveness of our courses and of our charitable giving.

To achieve this we must build on the great tradition of benefaction that began with the earliest members of our Company. Our success will depend on the support and willingness to help of everyone in the Company.
