My first contact with the Worshipful Company of Farmers was when I attended the Challenge of Rural Leadership Course, which was both great fun and a real challenge. A few months after the course the delegates of my course were all invited to attend a Livery dinner in London, where I met friendly and interesting people, who all had a great enthusiasm for British agriculture. I realised what an opportunity the Livery Company offered to meet all sorts of people connected to this fascinating industry and so I applied to join.
Since becoming a Liveryman I've enjoyed driving sheep over London Bridge and going to sea on a warship, as well as some more excellent dinners, with interesting after-dinner speakers. I currently sit on the Affiliations Committee and am the Livery contact for a charity which supports military veterans moving into civilian jobs in the land based sector, which is very rewarding.
The Livery Company offers friendship and wonderful opportunities for networking. I recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone with an interest in agriculture - and excellent dinners of course!
